Addressing Multiple Sclerosis in Communities of Color

Kamilah O. Martin-Proctor; BA Howard University a broad background in politics and public relations; M.A. (06’) in Intercultural Communications. In Junior high school Kamilah, was diagnosed with Chronic Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (I.T.P.). A rare blood disorder which causes the body’s immune system to attack itself and destroy the blood clotting agents in the body known as platelets. As far as experts know, ITP occurs when a person makes antibodies, which attach to his or her own platelets. The body's immune system eliminates the platelets thinking that they may be bacteria. Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis her junior year of high school Kamilah has intimate knowledge of living with Multiple Sclerosis.
Dyanna L. Gardner; BA Lincoln University; M.A. (06’) in education a first grade teacher and summer school principal at Ideal Academy P.C.S. Created a hands-on child centered, child structured learning environment. Facilitated the Math Series. Implemented Character Education to facilitate positive student behavior revamped the schools curricula to be aligned with the National Standards. I served as a member of the accreditation team. Collaborated with grade level staff to increase student achievement. Facilitated the “Roots” component of the Success for all reading series. Additionally, Dyanna is Owner/Co-founder of Unlimited Visions a production, consulting and event planning firm.
Torrie Carter – BA Lincoln University, upon graduation, she began working for Danfoss, Inc. in the Global Sales Support Department where she assisted key account managers. Promoted to Office Manager for Therapeutic Home Health Services, Inc., she specialized in providing Home Care Services. Currently, she is a Retirement Plan Conversion Specialist with T. Rowe Price, Incorporated. In addition to her many positions, she is also the Owner/Co-founder of Unlimited Visions a production, consulting and event planning firm.
